1 – Afeganistão

O país

O Afeganistão, está localizado no centro da Ásia e ocupa 652 230 km² de área. O país é maioritariamente montanhoso, com planícies no norte e sudoeste. Cabul é a capital e também a maior cidade, com cerca de 4,6 milhões de habitantes. Já o país tem cerca de 32 milhões.

Em 2021, depois de uma ofensiva talibã, a República Islâmica do Afeganistão colapsou, tendo as autoridades declarado o Estado Islâmico como novo governo nacional, mantendo-se assim desde setembro de 2021.

A nível de Economia, o Afeganistão é um país extremamente pobre. Muito dependente da agricultura e da criação do gado. A maior parte da população ainda não tem alimentação, vestuário, alojamento e cuidados de saúde suficientes, sendo que estes problemas são agravados devido à incerteza política e às operações militares.

O Futebol no Afeganistão

A Federação Afegã de Futebol foi fundada em 1922, porém, o primeiro clube do futebol afegão foi o Mahmoudiyeh FC, fundado em 1934. Três anos depois, essa equipa viajou para a Índia, para participar nalguns jogos. Realizou 18 encontros, dos quais venceu 8, empatou 1 e perdeu 9.

Em 1941, surgiu o segundo clube, o Ariana Kabul FC, que foi jogar para o Teerão, a convite do Irão, onde disputou 3 jogos, dos quais venceu 1 e perdeu os outros 2.

A seleção nacional

Em 1948, a Federação de futebol Afegão juntou-se à FIFA e competiu nos jogos Olímpicos de Verão com uma seleção masculina. Perderam o seu único jogo diante do Luxemburgo por 6-0.

Um dos maiores sucessos da seleção masculina do Afeganistão aconteceu quando a equipa venceu o campeonato SAAF de 2013, uma competição referente a equipas da Ásia do Sul.

O campeonato de futebol

A primeira liga de Cabul, foi o primeiro campeonato de futebol no Afeganistão, realizado pela primeira vez em 1946, com 12 clubes.

Em 2012, surgiu a Afghan Premier League, com a criação de 8 equipas simultaneamente, para serem os participantes inaugurais da mesma.

Uma curiosidade é que os jogadores da liga foram escolhidos através de um reality show chamado Maidan-e-sabz (“O Campo verde”). Essa iniciativa surgiu da Federação em conjunto com o Grupo MOBY, que possui vários canais de televisão, bem como estações de rádio e é o maior grupo de media do país. Os canais do grupo MOBY transmitem as partidas e os jogadores foram escolhidos numa votação feita por um júri e pelo público da televisão.

A equipa do Shaheen Asmayee FC conquistou 4 títulos da Premier League Afegã e são também a única formação a vencer 2 campeonatos consecutivos, bem como a única equipa que chegou à final da Liga afegã em 5 épocas seguidas (2013-2017).

Em 2021, surgiu a Liga dos Campeões do Afeganistão, que veio substituir a Premier League. O campeonato é formado por 12 equipas das regiões de Cabul, Herat e Balkh.

No ano de 2023, a liga não se realizou, devido a uma crise financeira, uma vez que a FIFA não enviou o orçamento para o campeonato, devido às mudanças políticas e à presença dos talibãs no futebol afegão, violando as regras da FIFA.

Em janeiro de 2024, a federação de futebol afegão anunciou o regresso da liga depois do Ramadão. Este campeonato foi ganho pela equipa do Attack Energy, que venceu o seu segundo título consecutivo, depois de terminar a temporada invencível, triunfando nos 11 jogos. Os encontros são transmitidos pela Ariana Television Network.

1 – Afghanistan

The Country

Afghanistan is located in Central Asia and covers an area of 652,230 km². The country is mostly mountainous, with plains in the north and southwest. Kabul is the capital and also the largest city, with about 4.6 million inhabitants. The country has a population of around 32 million.

In 2021, after a Taliban offensive, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan collapsed, and the authorities declared the Islamic State as the new national government, maintaining this status since September 2021.

Economically, Afghanistan is an extremely poor country, highly dependent on agriculture and livestock. Most of the population still lacks sufficient food, clothing, housing, and healthcare, problems that are exacerbated by political uncertainty and military operations.

Football in Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Football Federation was founded in 1922, but the first Afghan football club was Mahmoudiyeh FC, established in 1934. Three years later, this team traveled to India to participate in some matches. They played 18 games, winning 8, drawing 1, and losing 9.

In 1941, the second club, Ariana Kabul FC, was established. They went to play in Tehran, invited by Iran, where they played 3 games, winning 1 and losing the other 2.

The National Team

In 1948, the Afghan Football Federation joined FIFA and competed in the Summer Olympics with a men's national team. They lost their only game against Luxembourg 6-0.

One of the biggest successes for the Afghan men's national team came when they won the 2013 SAFF Championship, a competition for South Asian teams.

The Football League

The first league in Kabul was the first football championship in Afghanistan, held for the first time in 1946, with 12 clubs.

In 2012, the Afghan Premier League was created with the establishment of 8 teams simultaneously to be its inaugural participants.

An interesting fact is that the league players were chosen through a reality show called Maidan-e-sabz ("The Green Field"). This initiative was a collaboration between the Federation and the MOBY Group, which owns several television channels as well as radio stations and is the largest media group in the country. MOBY Group's channels broadcast the matches, and the players were selected by a jury and public television vote.

Shaheen Asmayee FC has won 4 Afghan Premier League titles and is also the only team to win 2 consecutive championships, as well as the only team to reach the Afghan league final 5 seasons in a row (2013-2017).

In 2021, the Afghan Champions League was created to replace the Premier League. The championship consists of 12 teams from the regions of Kabul, Herat, and Balkh.

In 2023, the league was not held due to a financial crisis, as FIFA did not send the budget for the championship due to political changes and the presence of the Taliban in Afghan football, violating FIFA rules.

In January 2024, the Afghan football federation announced the return of the league after Ramadan. This championship was won by the Attack Energy team, which won its second consecutive title after finishing the season undefeated, triumphing in all 11 games. The matches are broadcast by the Ariana Television Network.
